Application Process

The Transitional Year Residency at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital is accredited by the ACGME, and applicants to our programs must meet ACGME eligibility requirements. We also follow ACGME guidelines for the selection process. Our program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).

All applications must be submitted through the ERAS Program.  We accept applications beginning September 1 through December 15.

A personal interview is required to all invited applicants.

Transitional Year Residency appointments are made on the basis of the applicant’s preparedness, ability, aptitude, academic credentials, communications skills and personal qualities such as motivation and integrity. Residency appointments are made without regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability, sexual orientation or veteran status.

Requirements to apply to Tufts Transitional Year Program at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital:

        -MD/OD diploma or equivalent within 3 years

-Minimum passing scores in USMLE exams: 80% or greater

            -U.S. Citizenship/Permanent Resident/Work Authorization/eligibility for J1 or H1 Visa

        -Certification by ECFMG for International Medical Graduates

        -Dean’s Letter and supporting letters of recommendation (3)

        -Curriculum Vitae and Personal Statement
